Best Bergedil Recipe

Quick and easy Bergedil Recipe. Malay Potato Patties. You can add ground meat or seafood of your choice to the patties. You can also add sweet corn, green peas and or other finely chopped vegetables too. Photo and Original Recipe By: foodforlifetv.

Bergedil


Ingredients:
  • 800 grams Potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 3 Stalks Spring Onions, finely chopped
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of nutmeg powder
  • 150 grams Shallots, fried
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 2-3 stalks of Chinese celery or Coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • Cooking Oil

Instructions:
  1. Add oil to a depth of 3cm in a wok or deep frying pan. Deep-fry the potato slices in batches until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen towels.
  2. Place the fried potato slices in a mortar and pestle and mash till fine.
  3. Transfer the mashed potatoes in a large bowl, add fried shallots, spring onions, Chinese celery, onions, nutmeg powder, salt and pepper to mashed potatoes and mix evenly.
  4. Oil your hands lightly before forming the Bergedil Patties to prevent the mashed potato from sticking. Shape the potatoes into patties.
  5. Coat Patties one at a time, with beaten eggs before frying in oil.
  6. Fry until the exterior is golden brown.
  7. Dish out and drain the oil in a piece of oil absorbing paper. Best serve with Mee Soto or other dishes.
